Petition to Alter the Constitution in FL to Allow Betting

On Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, a petition signature drive by the political action group attempting to legalize sports betting in Florida through a 2022 Constitutional amendment has already begun.

The petition signed by the Florida Education Champions PAC had begun this Friday through the social media platform. It was just a day after the Florida Division of Elections gave complete authority for the ballot.

This petition effort is backed by FanDuel and Draftkings, two major casino betting companies in Florida.

On its Facebook page, readers are encouraged to obtain a ballot petition by mail, sign it, date it, and send it to the PAC in a postage-paid envelope. The total number of voter signatures in Florida required to place the amendment on the ballot is 891,589. Along with the vote, it also needs approval from the Florida Supreme Court.

The proposed Amendment 21-13 is sponsored by the CPAs team, headed by the political consultant, and is registered under “Florida Education Champions,” which will push sport betting to get legal status. It also involves the revenue from sports gambling for the Florida Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.

This fund includes the total revenue from slot machine activities and lottery ticket sales.

The money coming from that fund supports K-12 public schools, colleges and institutions, student aid, and other educational programs.

That contract grants the tribe exclusive rights to go ahead with sports betting, subject to federal permission, as long as servers on tribal property process bets placed on mobile devices anywhere in the state. The contract also mentioned that the tribe must pay the state at least $2.5 billion in gaming income for the next five years, according to the 30-year deal.

However, the proposed constitutional amendment would enable sports betting and mobile sports betting to providers other than the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
